With the gradual decline in the head grade of run⁃of⁃mine ore, copper mines under Daye NonferrousMetals Group are facing the challenge of coordinating resource, environmental, and economic benefits. To improve theutilization of low⁃grade copper ores, increase the feed grade to the grinding circuit, and reduce mill energy consumption, itis necessary to introduce preconcentration technology for waste rejection and equipment for ore sorting. In this study, aSTEINERT KSS combined sorting machine, integrating dual⁃energy X⁃ray transmission (DE⁃XRT) and 3D laser sensortechnologies, was used to carry out exploratory preconcentration tests for waste rejection on copper ores from the company’smines. The test results show that the combined sorting machine achieves good preconcentration performance for oresfrom the Fengshan Copper Mine. Under a waste rejection rate of 12%, the copper recovery in the concentrate reached 98%,the copper grade of the concentrate increased from 0.669 % to 0.746 %, representing an 11.51 % increase in grade, and the separation indexes were satisfactory.
