Abstract:

Rare metal mineralization containing Nb and Ta has been newly discovered in fractured and alteredrocks of the Popozhai rock body. To investigate the mineralization characteristics and genetic mineral types, electronprobe microanalysis was conducted on the rare metal mineralized rocks. Results reveal that rare metal⁃bearing mineralsincluding rutile, monazite, xenotime, and euxenite are observed in micro⁃fractures of the mineralized rocks. The mainNb⁃bearing mineral is rutile, while Ta⁃bearing minerals include xenotime and euxenite. The distribution and chemicalcharacteristics of minerals such as rutile and monazite indicate their hydrothermal⁃metamorphic origin, suggesting thatthe Popozhai rock body merely serves as the host rock. The Nb-Ta mineralization in the Popozhai rock body likelyoccurs during the Yanshanian period, related to the concealed late Yanshanian granite beneath it. Under the action ofhydrothermal fluids rich in volatiles(F−, Cl−, and H2O)and containing Nb-Ta, metasomatic metamorphism takes placein the Popozhai rock body. Crystallization of F⁃rich minerals like apatite and muscovite reduces volatile concentration, leading to crystallization and separation of minerals such as rutile. Nb continuously enters rutile, while Ta progressivelyincorporates into xenotime and euxenite, ultimately forming niobium(tantalum)mineralization.
