Abstract:

Electrochemical testing techniques including open circuit potential, cyclic voltammetry,Tafel curves and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy were used to study the electrochemical oxidation mechanism of pyrite at pH=1.0 with different concentrations of Fe2(SO4)3 and FeCl3;in addition, the effects of SO2-4 and Cl- on the oxidation mechanism of pyrite at the same Fe3+ concentration were investigated. The experimental results show that Fe2(SO4)3 and FeCl3 can promote the oxidation of pyrite, and Fe3+ and Cl- are the ions that play the role; SO2-4 does not change the oxidation mechanism of pyrite, but the increase of its concentration will increase the electron transfer resistance and thus reduce the surface oxidation rate of pyrite. These findings provide new insights into the oxidation mechanism of pyrite, and are of reference value for the practical application of pyrite.
